Your #LifeInBag flat lay exposé. In 1 sentence, please explain.
KARA (KJ): Multitasking, entrepreneur, creative, mum.
STEPH (SW): Everything I need within an arm’s reach! My bag is always heavier than it needs to be because I jam it all in, just like my life!
Sparro is a testament to high flying females known for their love and dedication to work, and working out. But also…to the one who may have been known to arrive at the gym with her top on inside-out (or backwards – sometimes both). Sound familiar?
KJ: So literally just this morning I went to drop my 4 year-old twins at childcare, only to be told they don’t attend Mondays (I’d swapped my days not realising it started this week) … meaning I totally missed my Pilates class – epic fail!
SW: Ha, I do tend to roll out of bed, quickly pop my contacts in and race to Pilates … though it’s usually my underwear inside out, not my top!
We love working out for many reasons, but mostly because a solid sweat gets us offline, sharpens our focus and gives us the confidence and energy to smash some serious life goals. Tell us about your current targets (career, life or otherwise).
SW: I can’t function if I don’t get my Pilates sessions in every week. I have a trainer one on one because I’ve got a lot of work to do with my body! But it gives me the energy and focus to tackle my crazy busy weeks!
The daily workout. AM, PM or somewhere in between?
KJ (pictured right): Definitely in the morning, otherwise life and kids tend to get in the way!
SW: AM is way better for me - I barely get a lunch break, so no chance to do it during the day, and by the evening, I’d much prefer to come home, have a glass of wine with my partner and be present with him and our fur-family.
Your #LifeInBag breakfast of champions looks like …
KJ: Coffee as my staple. Breakfast changes from nothing, to a shake, to eggs, to a quick piece of toast with peanut butter and asparagus (don’t knock it til’ you try it)!
SW: Coffee, coffee and coffee … I know my health and wellness friends are cringing as they read that, but it’s my routine! I do have a glass of warm water and fresh lemon in the morning if I’ve got time, but I need my two coffees to get me started and focused for the day ahead!
Canned tuna for lunch on the go. Legendary, or LEAVE IT BEHIND?
KJ: Leave it. Does anyone like that smell on the go?
SW: Ahh, as a vegetarian I’m more partial to some freshly cut carrot sticks and hummus as my legendary snack on the go!
Seriously smart, understated, Scandi-style design gets our wings flapping. What destination, space or event has recently inspired you?
KJ: Not sure if I’m allowed to say it – but have you been to Kmart lately?
SW: I recently made the sea change and relocated to the Mornington Peninsula, splitting my time between the city and the coast. The beauty and lifestyle of the Peninsula helps me balance the busy nature of the city and helps me juggle life a lot more eloquently! Sometimes a change in environment (even just changing up your daily meeting venues from a board room to a walking meeting) can be all the variety you need to help you re-focus your energy.
Any amazing products, brands or things you’re loving because they ‘ease the load’, minimised tailspins or saved you from ye old form-function compromise?
KJ: So I’m totally addicted to the Spell & They Gypsy Collective from Byron Bay at the moment. They had a drop today and I was late to my meeting with my business partner because I simply couldn’t miss out. They sold out in under 3 minutes. Other ‘Spellies’ would understand.
SW: I don’t get a lot of down time, but when I do, I get my zen on through monthly visits to my local wellness spa - I have a dip in the hot mineral baths, an infrared sauna, a facial and then relax with some tapas and wine, and I’m completely re-energised and recharged!
Oh, and dry shampoo is a game changer. Gone are the days of washing the hair daily … who’s got time for that?!
Simple words of wisdom to other Sparro fans looking to mirror your success?
KJ: Find something you’re passionate about and stick to it. Learn from your mistakes and celebrate your success.
SW: Back yourself. You are your own best advocate so work out how to talk about your strengths and achievements with ease. A quote I love is, “great things never came from comfort zones”, so when I’m feeling particularly challenged, it’s a good reminder!
