Take a seat! We first clapped eyes on you a few months back, but we know you’ve been around for a while now. We love nothing more than an Aussie high-flyer, so tell us - where / when / WHY did it all begin?
The Commons was born out of a desire to achieve happiness in the workplace and redefine the meaning of a day at the office. With thoughtful consideration of the way people work, Founders Cliff Ho and Tom Ye sought to create a space with a harmonious marriage of the flexibility of today’s work style with the needs of the modern individual.
At the core of Sparro’s product development is the promise of delivering on both form and function. Can you relate?
We didn’t need data to know that creativity flourishes when people enjoy their environment and be free of menial day-to-day tasks. After painstakingly researching what helps humans thrive, we learned that people have an innate need to connect with nature and other forms of life.
To integrate this into our spaces, we’ve let the natural light and plants in and created spaces outside for you to enjoy them there as well. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Every aspect of our workspaces are designed to inspire and shed unnecessary obstacles so members can focus on their ideas.
You’re predominantly known for your innovative work spaces, but there’s a little more to your offering, right (i.e. someone told us about some pretty sweet benefits & recreational perks)?
Our spaces are all designed to help cultivate creativity and productivity for our members. We knew immediately that we wanted to provide people with an all encompassing facility that looked beyond the standard that we’ve all grown up to believe is ‘the only way to work’. Therefore, we have amenities like beer and cider on tap, to help people feel at home and comfortable. We provide various workspaces, communal tables, outdoor areas and private offices to accommodate how different people work best. But best of all, we have an incredible wellness program with exercise classes and meditation that aims to help our members be healthy physically and mentally, so they can combat stress and foster creativity.
Beautifully designed spaces are clearly critical to your brand, but we know there’s more to THE COMMONS than meets the eye. Tell us a little about the broader goals overall ethos of your business, and why you exist.
The Commons is built on the idea that being in good company is good for you, and what is good for you will help you thrive. Inspiration and camaraderie breed success, so we aim to cultivate a community of creatives whose projects contribute to the harmonious eco-system we’re creating. We’ve loved creating a space where a diverse range of people are able to access resources to grow and achieve their goals. In the near future, we'll be working on a special foundation called The Commons Projects, which will offer multiple membership scholarships to people and businesses we want to support.
If you HAD to name drop, tell us who’s enlisted you to ease their daily #LifeInBag load …
If we HAD to name drop, we still wouldn’t :) We’re very protective of our members so we’re afraid our lips are sealed.
